Calico Jack Captain John Rackham, called Calico Jack for the striped trousers he wore, was a pirate captain for the two years 1718 to 1720. During this short time he plundered many ships. He and his men were captured by the crew of a government ship and brought camping in colorado springs to trial at St. Jago de la Vega, Jamaica. Among Rackham s crew were his mistress, Mary Read, and Anne Bonney. They are the only female pirates on record. Rackham and Read were hanged in Port Royal on November 17, 1720.
Accommodations HOTEL Accommodations on Middle Caicos are few and far between. What s there is quite basic, with few amenities, and bordering on the primitive, but worthwhile experiences nonetheless. Here s your chance to get to know the island
and good company. You have to be fairly fit to handle the often- strenuous exercise of paddling for hours at a time. But the sheer vastness of the seascapes, the pristine beaches, and the crystal waters make this a one-of-a-kind experience. See pages 247-49 for details on the various outfitters.
