649-946-2260. EP from $75. Salt Cay Sunset House. Close to the beach, this is the oldest bed & breakfast inn on the Turks and Caicos. Built by a shipwright in 1832, it became the home of one of the island s salt barons. Today, after years of renovations and restoration, the old house provides for a very pleasant and unique vacation. There are just three guest rooms, each with its own bathroom and comfortably furnished. Amenities are few, but the views far and away make up for the lack of creature comforts. There are ceiling fans in each of the three guest rooms, but no phones and no TVs. There is a TV in the one of the public rooms, and there s a caf , a laundry, and a picnic area. Fabulous panoramic views can be seen from the patio and outdoor dining area. Rooms are very reasonably priced, from $35. Fish, especially grouper, is the principal fare of the Bahamian people. It s served many ways, for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Bahamian lobster (Americans call it crayfish) is plentiful, often large, and not as expensive pike national forest camping as it is in the States. Try minced lobster, a mixture of shredded lobster meat cooked with tomatoes, green peppers and onions, and served in the shell.

The Bahamas, some 700 islands and 2,000 islets, lie scattered like a broken string of pearls across the northern Caribbean and offer literally thousands of opportunities for adventure. In fact, they have provided a dozen or more generations of seafarers and travelers with more adventure than many of them might ever have imagined or wanted.
